TRISO fuel
Uranium kernels sealed in layered ceramic coatings that hold fission products in place well past any temperature the core can reach. The fuel is its own containment.
Helium coolant
An inert gas carries heat out of the core. Helium does not become radioactive, so a leak releases nothing that matters.
Passive air jacket
If everything else stops, air rising through a jacket around the vessel pulls decay heat away by natural convection. No pumps, power, or operator action.
High-speed turbomachinery
A closed gas turbine turns heat into electricity and follows load from 30% to 100%, so the unit can sit inside a microgrid instead of beside it.
Dry air cooling
Fan-driven heat exchangers on the roof reject waste heat to air. No cooling towers, no water rights, no river.
